In a way the Cattle Point Lighthouse might seem the lessor, or even least, of the San Juan Islands lighthouses. And true enough, it’s rather simple and small. But what it lacks in pure stature, it more then makes up for in location.

Perched at the end of Cattle Point on San Juan Island it sports a glorious view. But more than that, from a photographer’s perspective, it’s visible from many locations and often finds itself in the perfect spot for the setting Sun and Moon.
Another attraction, for me, are the amazing currents that run through Cattle Pass between San Juan Island and Lopez Island. They’re never the same and create interesting patterns that help frame the southern tip of San Juan.

I’ve photographed the Cattle Pass Light day and night, and during every season of the year and it’s impossible to pick a favorite.
No too bad for a “boring” little lighthouse.

So lessor as she may be, I never tire of visiting and photographing this glorious “little” light.
